Growing seedlings for the Saltwater Cup

Indian Creek R.C. and Big Falls R.C. students grew seedlings from seeds gathered around their homes and communities, connecting the competition with practical restoration.

TIDE’S UPDATE · FEBRUARY 11, 2026

TIDE’s Education and Outreach Team was excited to visit Indian Creek RC School and Big Falls RC School to receive the seedlings students planted as part of the Saltwater Cup.

TIDE will care for the seedlings in our Native Plant Nursery before returning a different set of trees to the schools, ready for planting when the rains return later in 2026.

We found an impressive variety of tree species, with students sharing that they collected seeds from their family yards, farms, neighboring homes, and even the surrounding bush.

We also took time to hear from students about their hopes for the seedling exchange and how their learning has shaped their views on restoration and environmental stewardship.

TIDE extends sincere thanks to IUCN Protected and Conserved Areas for supporting this outreach and helping strengthen youth engagement in conservation.
